MISSION

Program Manager Expeditionary Radars (PM ExR) delivers the G/ATOR, a highly mobile multi-mission radar system designed to fully support expeditionary requirements for Marines worldwide. The Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) commander will employ G/ATOR within the Air Combat Element (ACE) and the Ground Combat Element (GCE). Within the ACE, G/ATOR will provide enhanced situational awareness and additional capabilities to conduct short- to medium-range radar surveillance and air defense, and air traffic control missions. Within the GCE, G/ATOR will provide ground weapons locating capability for conduct of counter-battery/counter-fire missions.

PROGRAMS

G/ATOR is a three-dimensional, expeditionary, short/medium-range multirole radar capable of detecting low-observable, low-radar-cross-section targets such as rockets, artillery, mortars, cruise missiles, and manned and unmanned aerial systems. The G/ATOR is being developed and fielded in three blocks and will be employed by the MAGTF across the range of military operations. The blocks will cover aviation and ground missions and replace three in-service legacy radars as well as fill a capability gap created by two already retired systems. G/ATOR’s expeditionary, multirole capabilities represent the next generation in ground radar technology and will provide greater range, detection, and target classification against new and evolving threats.

PEO Land Systems engineer receives Navy’s top Emergent Engineer award

In June, the Department of Navy recognized a Program Executive Officer Land Systems engineer with the Dr. Delores M. Etter Top Scientists and Engineers of the Year award for 2020. Ali Olinger, a systems engineer with the Ground/Air Task Oriented Radar program at PEO Land Systems, was one of two emergent engineers selected to receive this year’s Etter Award, and was the only Marine Corps honoree.

Corps’ moving forward with full-rate production of G/ATOR system

The Marine Corps has reached another acquisition milestone decision by gaining approval for full-rate production of the AN/TPS-80 Ground/Air Task-Oriented Radar system from the Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development and Acquisition on May 23, 2019. The G/ATOR system combines five legacy radar systems into a single, modernized solution with multiple operational capabilities, providing Marines with comprehensive situational awareness of everything in the sky.

Artillery Marines’ new radar brings the distance on the battlefield

The Corps’ primary indirect fire weapons detection system replacement is here, and is now getting into the hands of Marines. Program Executive Officer Land Systems started fielding the Ground/Air Oriented Task Radar—or G/ATOR—Block 2 systems to artillery Marines with the 11th Marine Regiment at Camp Pendleton, California.

The G/ATOR team is part of Program Executive Officer Land Systems, the Marine Corps acquisition organization for major land programs. G/ATOR is a next-generation radar that provides air surveillance/air defense, counter-fire target acquisition, and air traffic control capabilities.
